A fine English single shot sporting rifle in .303, built on a Martini action by Manton & Co. The barrel is engraved: MANTON & CO. GUN MAKERS TO H.R.H. THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH K. G. LONDON & CALCUTTA. The 26″ barrel has a very good bore, and is fitted with a claw-mounted Carl Zeiss Zielsechs scope. The optics are clear and the scope has a German-style triple post reticle. In addition there is a tang-mounted folding peep sight that is usable even with the scope in place. The receiver has very nice acanthus scroll engraving. The action works smoothly, the trigger is good, the safety functions properly, and the rifle has the classic Martini tear-drop cocking indicator. The wood is attractive English walnut with crisp checkering, and only minor hunting dings and scratches. The fore-end has a horn tip. The stock measures 14 1/4″ over a steel trap butt. The sling eyes are of the type found on British African sporters from the turn of the last century. The rifle weighs 7 lbs unscoped, and 8 lbs 3 oz with the scope mounted. A classic British hunting rifle.
