A beautiful best quality sidelock ejector by Thomas Horsley of York, considered by many to be the premier provincial gunmaker. This example comes in an excellent case with a second set of barrels. The original barrels are 28″ with 2 1/2″ chambers, choked .007/.021. Proved at .729, and now measures .732/.735. The rib is engraved: THOMAS HORSLEY & SON, MAKERS, YORK. The second set is also 28″ and the chambers are 2 3/4″. Proved at .729 and measures the same. The rib is engraved: NEW BARRELS BY WILLIAM POWELL & SON, 35 CARRS LANE, BIRMINGHAM. The barrels are choked .018/.030. (Please note: the second set is not a replacement, but an addition by a renowned maker.) The action features best bouquet-and-scroll engraving. The fore-end has an Anson Patent release. This gun is stocked to the fences (most unusual for a Horsley) and the highly figured stock measures 1 ½” x 2 ¼” x 15” with cast off. The weight (with the original barrels) is 6 lbs 6 oz, and (with the second) 6 lbs 11 oz. A wonderful double from a great maker.
